Having approximately the same qualities as walnut, it is easily shaped and works well with steam. The name can cause a bit of confusion as there is little to no black colouring in the wood itself. Kiaat is characterised of being durable, extremely stable and its easy workability. The wood works well with hand and machine tools, only moderately blunting cutters, it also has good gluing and excellent turning and carving properties which finishes well. The wood is renowned for its great bug and termite resistance. The heartwood is pale to dark brown, often with streaks, and distinctly separated from the pale yellow sapwood. Rubber-wood has very little shrinkage making it one of the more stable construction materials available for furniture. It is easily worked, and takes on stains uniformly. Rubber trees grow in Asia, Africa and South America. Rubber woods’ most famous feature is the milky white sap, known as latex. Rubber wood produces all the latex used in the world for all rubber based products. Rubber wood is a true hardwood. In fact, rubber wood is becoming one of the
